Rideau Township’s “Corners” Communities

Most visitors to the RTHS Facebook page or this website are familiar with the townships of North Gower and Marlborough, which were merged to create Rideau Township in 1975. You are also likely aware of some of the communities (former and existing) that carried the term "Corners" in their name (eg. Watterson's Corners, Pierce's Corners, etc.)

But are you aware that over the course of its history the area we know as Rideau Township has boasted 14 "Corners)communities:

• Baxter’s Corners (also known as Hall’s Corners)
• Geddes Corners
• Gideon’s Corners
• Lindsay’s Corners
• Malakoff Corners (formerly Windfall)
• Mill’s Corners
• Moore’s Corners
• Nine Mile Corner
• North Gower Corners (originally referred to “The Corners”; earlier names: Millers, Andrews & Stevensonville)
• Pierce’s Corners
• Riley’s Corners
• Scobie’s Corners
• Todd’s Corners
• Watterson’s Corners
The map below gives the location of these communities. However, while we know their names, unfortunately we know very little about their history (with notable exceptions, of course -- Pierce's, Watterson's, North Gower).
If you have, or know of someone who has any information about these historic Corners communities, we'd love to hear from you.
