In Praise of Church Suppers
When we first moved to the Ottawa Valley in 1985, we joined a church community in Fitzroy Harbour. When the time came around for our first church supper experience, it came in the form of a notice in the church bulletin requesting that each family in the parish prepare 5 salads and 7 pies! My wife and I almost fell off our chairs! Once we regained our composure, my wife immediately called the supper organizer to clarify -- "it was a typo, right?" we asked, hopefully. Well, of course the answer was, "NO, that's what we need, and that's how we've been doing it forever."
